THE site of a former Darlington town centre car park could be developed into 15 flats and offices.
Darlington Borough Council has received a planning application to build on Clark's Yard.
Permission has already been granted for 11 flats to be built in the yard, which is a designated conservation area.
Although the council has received objections about the development of the yard, a report into the future of the area published in 1990 said: "The character of the yard as a whole is ruined by the unsightly views across the rear of High Row properties and building and walls in Mechanic's Yard.
"The cleared area itself has improved in appearance since the provision of a small partly-surfaced contract car park, but Clark's Yard itself will only achieve its full potential if this land is once again developed."
Councillors will be asked to approve the application at a meeting next week.
