THE Farmway crop variety open day at Croft proved a huge success and was visited by more than 400 farmers.
They were able to view hundreds of plots of variety trials staged at Grange Farm, including trials held by the HGCA, ARC and Farmway.
Mr Robert Harle of Brandon was one of those who found the day particularly interesting. He believed it was extremely important for farmers to be able to see how varieties performed under local conditions and the Croft open day had become the major North-East cereal event.
A Sinar moisture meter clinic also proved extremely popular, as did a prize draw.
* On Friday, July 19, Farmway holds an open day at its Piercebridge site which includes guided tours of the feed mill, seed plant and silo.
There will also be trade stands, bouncy castle, raffle and free specialist advice from agricultural, pet and equine suppliers. The event runs from 1pm to 9pm with a barbecue from 3pm
