The retiring Mayor of Ferryhill has presented a cheque for £3,700 to her chosen charity.
Dr Simon Bailey accepted the money from Councillor Kath Conroy on behalf of the English Children's Cancer Fund.
Coun Conroy raised the money through a series of events held during her year in office. She chose to support the charity after discovering her granddaughter, Katherine, had leukaemia.
Coun Conroy said: "I was absolutely delighted to raise that much, but it's not just about the money. It was about raising awareness of the disease as well and that's been fantastic.
"The money was raised by sponsored events and the help from my friends and everybody in the parish has been absolutely excellent. The community itself has just been fantastic, they have rallied round and it has been great."
