The club hosted a friendly gala for local independent schools. This was a team competition with teams representing Bow School, the Chorister School, Durham High School for Girls and the Durham City club.

In all, 120 swimmers competed in front of a full house of noisy and enthusiastic spectators. The overall winners of the 34-event meet were Bow School who also took the trophies for the nine years and 13 years age groups.

Bow were closely challenged throughout by the Choristers School who won the 11 years and under age group.

The trophies were presented to the winning teams by former Olympic diver and ex-Durham High School pupil, Charmian Rawlings of Durham City.

Result: 1 Bow School 177 points, 2 Choristers School 172, 3 Durham City ASC 147, 4 Durham High School 111.

Richmond Dales ASC

Richmond Dales swimmers travelled to Glasgow to take part in the Scottish Open Age Group Championships and others to the Graded Meet at Newcastle.

At the Tollcross Pool in Glasgow Janine Phillips, 12 years, swam well in the 100m Breaststroke and just failed by two tenths of a second to gain an ASA National time, finishing in fourth place in the final and taking a full second off her heat time.

Anthony Burke, 13, also made a final finishing eighth in the 50m Backstroke, in a Personal Best time of 32.47 secs. He also competed in the 200m Breaststroke, 200m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle swimming PB times in all the events he entered.

Ryan Livingstone swam a PB in the 200m Backstroke, 2.26.39 finishing 15th.

At Newcastle Rachael Wilson, 14 years, won the 100m Breaststroke in 1.26.24 and finished eighth in the 100m Butterfly in a PB time of 1.27.88.

Hannah Young swam exceptionally well to finish in second place in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly taking two seconds off her Freestyle time and five seconds off her Butterfly time. She also achieved a PB in the 199m Backstroke finishing third.

Lynsey Carveth, 14 years: 100m Freestyle, 1.10.90, 6th; 100m Breaststroke, 1.29.27, 4th; 100m Backstroke, 1.25.58, 9th.

Iain Wilson, 11 years: 100m Backstroke, 1.34.07, 12th; 100m Freestyle 1.15.59, 5th; 100m Breaststroke 1.35.52, 3rd.

Louise Marsh, 14 years: 100m Freestyle, 3rd; 100m Butterfly 1.22.37, 5th; 100m Backstroke 1.23.83, 8th; 100m Breaststroke 1.32.19, 7th.
