A GROUP of children have being getting involved in a big housing development in Darlington.
The 11-year-old pupils from Mount Pleasant School were invited to visit the West Park development site, in Faverdale, as part of a creative art project. The school received funding from New Writing North and the site's developers to set up a week of creative events based on the theme of alchemy.
A poet and a visual artist are visiting the school throughout the week to help with a variety of projects, including customising white laboratory coats donated to the school by Glaxo.
A spokeswoman for the school said: "The West Park developers recognise that the children are the community of the future and they wanted to involve them in what they are creating.
"We are the closest school to the development, so we were delighted to get a look around the site and for the pupils to be involved in so many projects."
