RESIDENTS of Eston are being reassured that a new £1.2m Aldi store in the town centre will go ahead despite a two-year delay.
The supermarket chain has been given outline planning permission by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council for the store in The Square.
But wrangles with traders in the shopping block which will be demolished to make way for the store have held up the development.
Councillor George Dunning, Redcar's lead member for regeneration, said yesterday that a detailed plan would go before the authority's planning committee in August.
He said: "It has been a fairly tortuous route. Aldi had to deal with 17 different types of business and there was a problem with the relocation of the post office.
"But at last, after months of delicate negotiations and discussions, it looks like things are back on track which is excellent news for Eston. It will totally regenerate the centre of the town.
