YOUNGSTERS from across Darlington have taken part in mathematics challenge events at the town's Carmel RC Technology College.
Pupils from five primary schools spent a morning at the college solving problems using computers. The competition was won by children from St Bede's Primary School.
The other schools taking part were: St Augustine's, Holy Family RC School, Abbey Road Juniors and St William's.
A record number of year eight pupils at Carmel RC Technology College have been awarded certificates in the UK Junior Mathematical Challenge.
These included a special award to David Quick for the best results in the school.
Students Marcus Sims, Joseph Woolley, Daniel Bowerbank and Louisa Picciau, also received gold awards.
Nine received silver awards, and19 bronze awards.
The silver awards went to: Jonathon Murphy, Stevan Rivera, Jennifer Nathan, Rebecca Tinkler, Stephanie Layton, Matthew Jones, Lorna Urwin, Danielle Jones and Bethany Francis.
Bronze awards went to: Nicola Sims, Eve Taylor, Stephanie Weddell, Jamie Baldasera, Stephen Byrne, Abi Blewitt, Fiona Lynch, Jamie Miller, Philippa Watson, Laura Campion, Emma Condren, Lisa McGuckin, Katya Pugach, Patrick Saunders, Marc De Wind, Matthew McNaughton, Jonathan Petch, Jenny Rowlinson and Tom Carr.
