A VOLUNTEER has landed £1,000 for the church where she helps out.
Christine Hill was given the award at the WH Smith Chief Executive's Community Awards in London for her voluntary work at St Cuthbert's Church, Redcar.
Ms Hill's efforts include running a Brownie pack, offering communion at a rest home, acting as a bereavement councillor and visiting the sick. She said: "I am delighted to receive this award from WH Smith on behalf of St Cuthbert's Church. The £1,000 will go a long way to support its future projects."
The money will be used to install toilet facilities in the church, which is a listed building.
There to see Ms Hill, who works at WH Smith in Redcar, receive the accolade was the town's MP, Vera Baird, who paid tribute to her efforts.
"Redcar has a proud tradition of serving the community and I am glad to see Christine's dedication being rewarded," she said.
The awards recognise WH Smith employees who volunteer for community projects.
