A YORKSHIRE Dale will be celebrating its heritage and traditions this month.
The Upper Wensleydale Gathering will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, in and around Hawes.
It includes guided walks around the area, live music in local pubs, demonstrations of arts and crafts, and a coracle regatta on the upper reaches of the River Use, around Haylands Bridge.
Coracles are one-man vessels, traditionally made from cow hide stretched over willow strands. Ripon's David Purvis is a modern-day exponent of the craft, thought to date back 10,000 years, and will be available to assist those attempting their maiden voyage on Sunday, July 28.
To be part of the event or for information about the festival call Hawes Tourist Information Centre on (01969) 667450.
