A REPLICA Tyne Bridge, positioned in line of sight with the genuine article, has taken pride of place at the opening of a multi-million pound art centre.
Internationally acclaimed artist Chris Burden has created the replica of Tyneside's most famous landmark for the grand opening of an exhibition at Baltic, the Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.
Standing 3m high, the model has been created from stainless steel Meccano and created to the same scale as the real bridge.
It has been positioned in front of a window overlooking the River Tyne, so visitors will see the smaller version superimposed against the larger one.
Mr Burden has recreated some of the world's most famous bridges.
He said: "This window facing on to the bridge is a unique opportunity I don't think I'll ever have again. There is nowhere that has a major art exhibition gallery that overlooks a bridge."
