DAREDEVILS are hoping to bridge a gap for a needy charity.
Fundraisers plan to climb to the top of the Transporter Bridge at Middlesbrough - and then abseil down a 160ft drop, their sights set on raising money to provide nurses for the terminally ill and to fund cancer research.
Marie Curie Cancer Care has 87 trained nurses caring for cancer sufferers in their homes in Teesside and North Yorkshire. The group raises funds for research into the causes and treatment of cancer.
Last year, more that 50 people abseiled down one side of the bridge raising more than £4,500 for Marie Curie.
The charity is hoping there will be no shortage of volunteers for this year's abseil, being held on September 8.
Susie Fothergill, community fundraising manager for the charity, said: "There are fantastic views from the top and you will be in the hands of abseiling professionals. Places are limited for this unique experience, because we can only use the bridge in the morning."
