MARGARET Bowtell had a century of memories and stories to tell family and friends when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
About 150 people helped Mrs Bowtell mark her special day with a get-together in All Saints Church, Ferryhill.
Born in Tudhoe in 1902, Mrs Bowtell has lived in the same house in Barrington Terrace, Ferryhill, for more than 65 years.
Most of Mrs Bowtell's four children, 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren attended her birthday party.
She was presented with flowers by Durham County Council chairman, Coun Charlie Magee, who handed her a bottle of whisky signed by Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Ferryhill mayor Ken Campbell and deputy mayor Doreen Greenwell presented Mrs Bowtell with a bouquet at her home.
