THE 2nd Chester-le-Street Scouts Group held a birthday party at Chester-le-Street Cricket Club, Ropery Lane recently for retired Group Leader Arthur Carver on his 90th birthday.
Arthur or Skip as he is affectionately known, has been involved in scouting all his life. In 1923 he attended a Durham County Scout rally at Chester-le-Street, at which Robert Baden-Powell the founder of the Scout Movement, was present. He was a founder member of 2nd Chester-le-Street Scouts in 1927. On retiring as GSL at 65 he was made life president of the group.
He is life vice president and oldest member of Chester-le-Street Cricket Club. He had a hairdressing business in the town.
