A RECENT police speed trap campaign in Hurworth failed to bring many prosecutions, the parish council was told.
Last month, police stood at various points throughout the village, including known speeding hot-spots along Croft Road and Roundhill Road.
Even though final figures are not yet confirmed, PC Karl Lowe told the parish council that he believed statistics would show there was not a major problem in the village.
He said: "The majority of people caught were doing between 30 and 40mph, but I know there have not been many prosecutions made.
"Although no final figures have been confirmed, there appears to be no major problem with speeding."
Councillor Ian Black disagreed, saying: "The residents of Roundhill Road would confirm that most people speed as they come into the village along that road and not where the police were standing."
Councillor Alan Gibson believed the problem lay along Croft Road. He said: "I think most of the speeding through the village takes place on the straight run past the community centre. I have seen people going along there at speeds of 60mph or more."
