A North Yorkshire farmer was named overall champion in the Farming Enterprise Awards yesterday.
Angus Wielkopolski and wife, Kathleen, farm near Seaton Ross, York, running 2,500 goats on 150 acres, producing milk, yoghurt, butter, cream, cheese and ice cream under their own St Helen's Farm brand.
The couple were presented with £1,000 in prize money and a commemorative salver, sponsored by FPD Savills and the Farming in Yorkshire magazine.
Formerly known as the Farm of the Year award, the competition has been given a new look, although the objective remains to reward the best of the best.
Chief executive of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, Nigel Pulling, said: "Mr Wielkopolski is a worthy winner. I know the judges had a particularly difficult task as the entries this year were of a very high standard.
"One of the aims of the society is to encourage good farming practice - and we have certainly seen that here today."
