POLICE hope shots of an armed raid at a petrol station may help them track down the masked robbers.

The two men threatened a cashier at knifepoint at the Burn Moor petrol station, just outside Chester-le-Street, County Durham, on Monday evening, before making off with £300 and a silver Ford Escort belonging to a customer in the shop.

The woman had handed over the keys to her car after being confronted by the raiders.

Now police hope images taken from closed-circuit television footage of the raid will help jog people's memories.

At this stage detectives at Chester-le-Street police station are unsure from which direction the raiders approached the garage on Chester Road, or in which direction they fled after dumping the Ford Escort in Park View Terrace, Chester-le-Street.

The robbers both wore grey balaclavas. One wore a light-coloured training top with blue jeans and was about 5ft 6 to 5ft 8in, while the other man wore dark clothing and was about 6ft to 6ft 2in.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Chester-le-Street police on 0191-388 4311 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.
