PLANS have been unveiled for a £1.2m extension at a primary school in Hartlepool.
Work is expected to get under way in October at Stranton Primary School to create a wide range of new facilities for pupils and the wider community.
New Deal for Communities is providing around £800,000 for the project, with the remaining £400,000 coming from the Sports Lottery Space for Sports and the Arts programme.
The development comprises a new 78-place nursery, new sports hall and changing rooms, music and performing arts facility and two new community rooms.
The project has been designed by Hartlepool Borough Council's in-house architectural team.
Headteacher Judith Thomas said: "This is a very exciting time for the school.
"This is going to be an excellent scheme and the extension will mean the whole school will be under one roof.
"The new nursery facility will enhance our early years provision and I am sure the new sports and arts facilities will be equally welcomed."
