Roseberry Group North East Durham League
East Rainton lead both Division One and Division Two. In their first division game at Coundon, East Rainton had 45 runs to spare after totalling 160 for six.
Gordon Steel hit four boundaries in 38, Colin Henderson had a six and four fours scoring 30 and Aiden Maskell carried his bat for 41, with a six and three boundaries. Brian Hardy was in good form with the ball for Coundon and in 17 overs he conceded only 35 runs taking four wickets.
When Coundon responded they were all out for 115 as Lindsey Fleming claimed three for 19 in nine overs, four of which were maidens and Ian Kitching returned four for 34 in his 13 overs spell.
Wearmouth are second and they had six wickets in hand visiting Medomsley who managed 102 as Murphy returned six for 38 and Peter Stronach three for 57.
Colin Davison, who opened the batting, was still there unbeaten with 27 when Wearmouth replied with a match-winning 103 for four. The winner with the bat, however, was Stephenson who struck 62 of his side's total.
Newton Aycliffe slipped in the race for the championship when they went down by six wickets to Washington. When they made first use of the wicket Newton Aycliffe were all out for 92 when Wilkie claimed six for 48, Bowes two for six and Plender two for 35.
Despite losing opening batsman Thompson without scoring, Washington were never in danger, Carr, (24) and Raynor, (29), put together a useful partnership for the second wickets and victory was secured with an unbroken fifth wicket stand involving Bewick and Fowle.
Coxhoe hosted Belford House and won by 38 runs. Phil Adsett struck no fewer than seven boundaries scoring 38 when he opened the Coxhoe innings. Keith Appleby kept up the good work with a couple of sixes and four fours in 37 before Glen Bloomfield struck 49, with no fewer than four sixes and four boundaries. Bloomfield was involved in a last wickets partnership with Connelly which produced 38 runs _ and Bloomfield scored all of them.
Gordon Havelock sent down 30 overs in the Belford House attack taking four for 60 and Gary Pickering had four for 40 in his 12 over spell.
When Belford House replied they were all for 126 with one ball of their 45 overs remaining. Gary Pickering top scored hitting a four and three sixes in 40 and for Belford House Adsett had four for 59 in 21 overs and Bloomfield five for 37 from the 18.4 overs he sent down.
Plawsworth improved their position near the bottom of the table when they recorded their four victory of the season, defeating Sunderland Hospitals by 69 runs. Kevin Jones, who went in late down the order, carried his bat for 34 and the useful 23 by John Gott raised the Plawsworth total to 124 for eight. In reply, Sunderland Hospitals were all out for 55 as Peter Harwood captured six for 20 runs and Gott claimed three for 19.
Littletown hosted Benwell Hill and won by 78 runs. When they batted first, Littletown realised 172 for seven as Andy Woollett top scored with 72 and Davies added 25. Sargentson took four for the seven wickets to fall for 27 runs.
When they responded, Benwell Hill managed just 94 for nine as Bede took three for 41 and John Ricketts three for 18.
East Rainton enjoy a narrow lead at the top of Division Two from Simonside. East Rainton romped to 255 for the loss of just two wickets when they entertained Belmont. Iley batted throughout the innings for an undefeated 70, Bell with just five runs short of a century when he was dismissed and Hall added 61.
When Belmont went in to bat they finished on 162 for eight with Brookes scoring 78 and Reynolds 38 not out. Reay (3-45) and Davieson (3-41) shared six wickets in the East Rainton attack.
Simonside are second of division two and they had five wickets to spare overtaking the Kelloe total of 174 for seven. Simpson with 41 and McDonnell (43) provided most of the runs when Kelloe realised 174 for seven batting first. Thompson, three for 66 runs was the most productive of the four man Simonside attack.
When Simonside occupied the wicket they were indebted to opening batsman Wastell for his 75 and to Parkes (41). Pratt with an innings of four for 58, was in good form with the ball for Kelloe.
Burnhope managed only 63 all out in 27 overs when they visited Hunwick. Christopher Pratt sent down 40 overs for Hunwick claiming six for 40 and Brian Mallis returned three for 17 from 12 overs.
When Hunwick batted first their innings closed on 147 all out after 39 overs. Top scorer was Richard Brean whose 47 included eight boundaries.
Wearmouth had one wicket to spare when they entertained fourth from top Tabtobie. Required to score 180 in runs Wearmouth edged home when Willie Ferry contributed 42 and for Tantobie Whiteford had four for 29 and Brown four for 40.
Batting first Tantobie finished with 113 which included 36 by Robinson and in the Wearmouth attack none did better than Stores with five for 46.
Bearpark totaled 205 for eight visiting Washington. Smith opened the innings with 83 and partnered Fitchett (73). Fallon claimed three for the eight wickets to go down for 69 runs while Todd, Bowes and Ahmed were also among the wickets for Washington.
Replying Washington were all out for 141 which included 42 by Bewick and 39 from Colledge. Lishman four for 67, and Bell (3-18) top performed with the ball for Bearpark.
George Mann Cup
Wolsingham Sixth Form pulled off the shock of this season's competition when they beat Eastgate Cross Keys, who had come through the qualifying league unbeaten, whilst the students had edged through in bottom place in the other qualifying league.
The Keys batted first and did so with authority after losing their first wicket with only three on the board. However confident batting from Willie Hutchinson 23, Ray Snaith 20, Ian Tennick 23, Colin Coulthard 17 and Colin Perry 15 pushed the total up to 132 when their 20 overs were completed.
The fact that they were facing a battery of very strong Eastgate bowlers did not deter the students, who made a magnificent start when the opening brothers, David and Chris Evans hit 23 and 17 respectively. Confident batting followed with Simon Brown making 20, Wayne Booth 10 before the winning partnership of James Coxon 12 not out and Chris Hail 18 not out took them to victory with two and a half overs to spare.
Wolsingham Mill Race, who finished in second place in League A, batted first against Wolsingham All Stars and recorded a total of 137 despite a very poor start. The Mill Race lost their first wicket for nine and the second at 19 but then made a good recovery as George Wilks hit 25, Josh Wilks 20, Richie Pringle 21 and John Nelson 16.
The All Stars reply began in similar vein to the Mill Race as they lost two early wickets. Michael Watson with 23 and Kevin Walker with 20 steadied the ship but then there was a major batting collapse and the innings was ended on 71.
Tow Law Black Horse batted first against Weardale Steel and never reached their full potential as they were dismissed for 57 in twelve overs with David Craggs batting throughout for an unbeaten 21.
The Steelworks reply began slowly as they lost their first wicket for fourteen but they batted carefully to go through to victory with Alan Henderson making 14 and Rob Dawson 20 not out with Ian Muse 12 not out.
The match between Wolsingham Teachers and Wolsingham Club was postponed because of a downpour.
The semi-finals are Wolsingham Mill Race v Wolsingham Sixth Form and Weardale Steel v Wolsingham Teachers or Wolsingham Club with the Final played at Wolsingham School and Community College on Sunday, July 14 at 2pm.
Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League Under-15
Ryton enjoyed a ten wickets victory when they played Consett at Blackfyne. When the home side batted first they posted 94 for the loss of four wickets and most of the runs came from Marshall with 54. In reply, Ryton did not concede a wicket as Docherty carried his bat for 48 and Bates ended with 29 not out.
Kibblesworth were dismissed for just 31 when they hosted Blaydon for whom Harvey claimed three for five and Johnson two for 11. In the Blaydon innings, which produced the healthy score of 124 for two, none did better than Johnson with an unbeaten 50 and for Kibblesworth, Rewcastle took both wickets to fall for just 23 runs.
Jeff Bowman top scored with 48 and Richard Brodie added 37 to the wickets total of 126 for four against Chopwell. Bowman went on to take two for 15 and Graham Bowman two for nine as Chopwell were all out for 64.
Lanchester had all ten wickets in tact overtaking the Burnopfield score of 85 for six. Stuart McPhail finished unbeaten on 53 and Greg Halliday was 25 not out. Batting first, Burnopfield realised 85 for six and no fewer than 49 of their runs came from Mark Stoneman.
George Neaven contributed 81 to the Swalwell total of 134 for three before Tantobie were pegged to 71 for eight.
No play was possible in the games between Annfield Plain and Lintz and Crookhall and Greenside.
Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-15s
Eppleton had the better for Gateshead Fell after totalling 104 for the loss of four wickets. Matthew Hooper led the way with 35, Craig Hughes scored with 23 and Lee Atkinson 22 while for Gateshead Fell Mujib captured two of the four wickets for 20 runs.
In reply, the visitors made just 86 for seven and Mujib top scored with 26. Anthony Anderson returned two for 22 as did Michael Gray in the Eppleton attack.
Durham City had 39 runs in hand of Hetton Lyons after scoring 108. The Lyons managed just 69 for seven in reply.
Whitburn defeated Felling by nine wickets after restricting their opponents to 53 for six. Matthew Woolston claimed two for 16 and Shaun Prosser two for 25 for Whitburn who conceded only one wicket as Woolston carried his bat for 27 out of a total of 54 for one.
Runs were more plentiful when South Shields met South Hetton and won by 20 runs. Batting first, South Shields ended on 126 for five as the runs flowed from Chris Nichol with 62 and Bobby Scorer (30). Maddison top performed with the ball for South Hetton claiming three for 30.
Responding, South Hetton ended on 106 for four and Kyle Bradburn was their leading run maker as he carried his bat for 48. Michael Dunn with two for 19, was in good form in the South Shields attack.
Premier Sports Durham Coast League Under-18s
Otwo games went ahead and there were victories for Seaham Park and Boldon CA.
Seaham Park visited Castle Eden who ended with a respectable 105 for six which included 35 not out by Richard Ede. John Spellman added 24 and in the Seaham attack Kieron Hodgson captured two for 13 runs.
When they responded, Seaham Park reached the target losing just two wickets as Amer Akhtar top scored with 46 and David Morton carried his bat for 27. Andrew Docherty added a valuable 25 runs and in the Castle Eden attack, Brown claimed both the wickets to go down for just 13 runs.
Boldon defeated Houghton by 18 runs after realising 127 for eight when they batted first. Gary Frater who enjoying and outstanding season, hit an excellent 83 and for Houghton, Gavin Snowball had three for 13. Replying Houghton posted 109 for four which included 37 by Craig Dowell and in the Boldon attack Carl Bellerby returned two for 15.
Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-18s
Luke Anderson was again in top form for Philadelphia who defeated Boldon by five wickets. Faced with a target of 109, Phili were indebted to Anderson for his contribution of 52. Philip Randle was top scorer for Boldon adding 44 to his team's total of 108 for six.
South Shields rattled up the formidable total of 182 for one against South Hetton. Ray McCrae carried his bat for 72, David Maughan added 53 and Johnny Wightman finished with 51 not out. Replying, South Hetton made just 90 for seven which included 27 by Crawford. David Arrowsmith returned the excellent figures of three for six and Chris Nichol had two for 11 for South Shields.
Whitburn were not far behind South Shields in the scoring stakes realising 180 for the loss of five wickets when they played Felling. Ross Carty top scored with 60 and Harry Robertson added 38. Responding, Felling could only make 66 for six which included 27 by Harrison and 26 from Leonard. David Race took two for ten in three overs and Carty had the excellent figures of three for four from the two overs he sent down.
