THE younger generation were getting to grips with rural issues yesterday as show organisers put the emphasis on learning.
The Great Yorkshire Showground's education area played host to a variety of events aimed at children of all ages - from animal identification and badge-making to plant growing and identifying crops in pots.
The nation's favourite vegetable also came in for particular scrutiny when the Potato Council's promotional bus dropped by.
Education area organiser Di Brabbs said: "Our aim is to promote a better understanding of food, farming and the countryside in a fun environment."
