TWO youngsters have been honoured for contributions to community life.
Nicci Gardener, of Shiney Row, and Laura Derby, of South Hylton, were awarded the Lions Award for their work through the Young Volunteers Project, in Pennywell, Sunderland.
The 15-year-olds were presented with a certificate, trophy, glass paperweight and gift vouchers during a ceremony at St Anthony's School, Sunderland.
They have worked on many community schemes, including a sensory garden at Pennywell Early Years Centre, fundraising for residents at South Hylton Village Care Home, a sponsored fancy dress dip and an abseil.
Laura said: "It was great to receive the award. We put a lot of hard work into the Young Volunteers Project and are proud of our achievements."
Amanda Gerry, youth development worker at Pennywell Youth Project, said: "Both Nicci and Laura have worked hard on every project they were involved in. It seems only fitting their commitment has been recognised by this award."
