THE largest annual air show in the region returns this year with an impressive array of wartime aircraft and modern jets.
Elvington Airfield is hosting the Yorkshire Air Show on the bank holiday weekend of August 25 and 26.
Event organiser Ken Cothliff said: "After attracting record crowds to last year's show we knew we'd have to put on something special to improve on it, so what better way than celebrating Yorkshire's place as the home of aviation in the UK.
"It is almost 150 years since Sir George Cayley conducted the first-ever man-carrying flight of a heavier-than-air machine in Scarborough and to mark this the RAF Gliding Association will perform a daily aerial ballet."
The show will once again see the RAF well represented. In addition to the popular Battle of Britain flypast, there will also be displays of the Sepecat Jaguar Strike aircraft, Tornado F3 defence fighter and the Nimrod anti-submarine hunter.
Formation aerobatics will be provided by the Yakovlev Team, in their Russian YAK 52 trainers, and the Apache Team in four jet L39 Albatross trainers.
Tickets, costing £8 to £12, can be booked by calling (01759) 305851.
