A BICYCLE track for youngsters in Newton Aycliffe could be finished by the end of the month.
The dirt track for BMX bikes will be built at Woodham Park, as a result of a request to Great Aycliffe Town Council from youngsters.
Councillor Alan Gray said: "We went out to public consultation and people supported the idea, but the first location that we suggested was not well received, so we relocated it away from the houses.
"It's nothing spectacular, just a few humps and bumps, but the idea came from the kids themselves, and it is part of a major refurbishment of the park."
The council is spending £25,000 on playground equipment for the park. Other features will include a basketball hoop and seating area.
Coun Gray said he had several inquiries from youngsters asking when the BMX track would be ready.
"The town council is really committed to consultation, and in this case we also responded to requests from the young people themselves," he said.
"They came forward with the idea and we have taken it through the normal process of council, which from their point of view no doubt seems a long time. But we are on track now to get this thing installed, and hopefully the work will be done in the next few weeks."
