RESIDENTS of an elderly people's home are to be temporarily relocated for a year while a new facility is built.
Final plans for extra care housing accommodation to replace Manor Grange residential home, in Knaresborough, will be considered by councillors next week when they will be asked to allocate £1.1m to the scheme.
The total cost of nearly £3.5m is being supported equally by North Yorkshire County Council and Harrogate Borough Council, with the remainder coming from the Hanover Housing Association.
While the facility is being built, the residents of Manor Grange will be moved as a group to the former Pannal Grange residential home, in Harrogate.
The county council says moving staff and residents in this way will minimise disruption and the authority is confident that the National Care Standards Commission will agree to the plan.
Councillor Murray Naylor, executive member for social services, said: "I hope that all parties in the Harrogate area will realise that this is the only way to take matters forward and will support these plans. Knaresborough is enthusiastic about the Manor Grange development and wants to see the plans implemented as soon as possible.
