A GROUP of schoolchildren from Middlesbrough are taking part in a clean-up of their area on Monday morning.
The youngsters, aged seven to 11 and from Rosewood Primary School, will tidy up the area around the school, and The Garth estate, as part of their end-of-year project.
Middlesbrough Council's streetscene waste services department has provided the children with gloves, bags, litter pickers and advice.
The council horticultural team will present each child with a pot plant to take home.
Ken Sherwood, Middlesbrough Council's waste services manager, said: "This is a great idea on behalf of the children and local residents, who are tackling a localised litter issue together."
Dorothy Sewell, chairman of The Garth Residents' Association, said: "We hope that by involving younger members of the community it will encourage them to keep our streets clean in the future."
