A NEW £8,500 library was opened at Moorside Community School by children's laureate Anne Fine.
The author, from Barnard Castle, read some of her books to primary and secondary school pupils from Consett.
"It was fantastic of her to come and visit us," said Estelle Spring, library resource manager at Moorside School.
"We could not have found a better guest than Anne Fine who, in addition to being a famous best-selling author, lives within the county."
The library has more than 2,500 volumes, computers and a computerised lending system.
