YOUNG Carla Jelley followed in her mother's footsteps when she set out to complete a sponsored walk to raise cash for cancer research at the weekend.
Carla took part in the ten mile sponsored walk around Winlaton, Gateshead, in memory of her mother, Estelle Jelley, who died from breast cancer in March - three days before her 46th birthday and silver wedding anniversary.
Her husband, Jon, 52, and older children Craig, 19, and Lisa, 23, wanted to organise a special event to celebrate her life.
Together, they decided to revive the sponsored walk that Estelle had organised in memory of her late father, Jack, and raise money to help Cancer Research UK.
Mr Jolley said: "Estelle started this walk when her father died, so it seemed right to hold it again in her memory.
"We wanted to do something positive because that's what Estelle would have wanted, and by raising money for Cancer Research UK we will be highlighting the need for research into the disease."
