FITNESS enthusiasts across North Yorkshire did their bit for charity over the weekend by contributing to the BBC's Sport Relief fund.
All four leisure centres in the Hambleton district opened on Saturday to allow dozens of people to take to the rowing machines for one sponsored mile.
The challenge was part of the national Golden Mile Row day, which should add significantly to the £10m raised by Sport Relief at the weekend to help needy youngsters in Britain and across the world.
David Earl, assistant manager of Stokesley Leisure Centre, said the local response to the challenge had been terrific.
"We had lots of interest in this event, with some people training hard for weeks. We're keeping records of the times people achieve to enter them into the national results," he said.
