WOLSINGHAM residents got a flavour of France during a weekend of activities to celebrate Bastille Day.
The event was held to raise awareness of the new town-twinning arrangements with Poix de Picardie and to help raise funds to support the association's work.
A self-financing support committee was formed just over a year ago and the group has recently returned from a visit to Poix, which included a party of 24 school pupils.
Committee member Vere Shuttleworth said: "What we are doing is trying to get the community of Wolsingham involved, not just by having the activities in the Market Place, but by emphasising the French theme and the link between the two countries.
"Rather than just have any old thing, we thought it would be nice to do something to celebrate Bastille Day. But we don't have blinkers on. We are trying to get the whole community of Wolsingham behind this idea."
Youngsters designed Bastille Day T-shirts for the weekend, which were on sale to the public. The local drama group performed a French farce, and a series of photographs from the Harperley prisoner-of-war camp were on display.
