MORE than 1,000 women joined together this weekend to run for charity.
Organisers say they have been stunned by the number of runners who signed up for the last North-East Race for Life, held in Darlington.
It is the first time the female-only run, which raises money for Cancer Research UK, has been staged in the town.
The 5km event, around South Park, started at 11am. Many runners had attached cards dedicated to loved ones they had lost to cancer to their T-shirts - a poignant reminder of why they were there.
Race for Life organiser Roberta Brown said: "We have had more than 1,000 people sign up to take part. It is the first time that Race for Life has come to Darlington, so that is amazing."
Race for Life events have already been held in Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
