MARY PICKS UP AN AWARD:The Community Personality of the Year Award from the Durham Association of Youth and Community Groups was presented to Mary Knox, of Lumley, for her work with the Friday Club, which enables housebound people to take part in social activities.
GOLF DAY: The Wheatsheaf 2000 Golf Society, from Barley Mow, will travel to Coldstream. Golf Club for games on Wednesday.
STRAWBERRY TREAT: Strawberry teas have been arranged by the craft group of Birtley Methodist Church on Saturday, in the church garden.
GROUP MEETING: The evening group of the Alzheimer's Society will meet from 7.30pm to 9pm tomorrow at the Bullion Lane centre. A flag day held at Tesco by the society raised £319. The society has expressed its gratitude to everyone who contributed and to Tesco.
PLAYGROUP: The Chester-le-Street Community Centre, Newcastle Bank, holds an Ofsted-registered playgroup from 9.15am to 11.45pm every weekday during term-time. Further information is available by contacting 0191-388 4752.
CHRISTIAN AID: Christ Church, with the Methodist and Evangelical churches in Lumley, raised £627 for Christian Aid.
BIRD SHOW: Chester-le-Street Budgerigar Society will hold its annual show from 2pm to 4.30pm on Saturday at Barley Mow Village Hall.
