YOUNGSTERS have presented the findings of a year-long study into the issues that concern them most.
Durham Youth Assembly, made up of secondary school students from across the county, presented the findings to North Durham MP Kevan Jones and Councillor Neil Foster, Durham County Council's cabinet member for education.
The assembly, funded by the county council and facilitated by Durham Children and Young People's Council, looked at a variety of areas, including the standard of personal, social and health education, last year.
Task groups were formed and findings prepared for the assembly's final meeting of the year, when the youngsters asked the county council and the Government to act on their findings.
All those who took part received a certificate to mark their involvement in the assembly, which was set up in 1999 and holds four sessions a year, attended by about 60 youngsters.
Michelle Fortune, 17, chairwoman of the Durham Children and Young People's Council, said: "We really hope that politicians will listen to what young people have to say."
