A MODEL shop which has just opened in Durham is attracting customers from as far away as Germany, Japan and America.
Since opening in May, Model King, in North Road, Durham, has enjoyed a flurry of interest from local and foreign enthusiasts.
The shop stocks ranges to suit casual collectors and fanatics, and includes famous names such as Hornby, Airfix and Scalextric.
Shop director Alan Starbuck said it was already a hit. "We've had German and Japanese visitors , and Americans love it."
"There used to be a model shop in Durham about six or seven years ago and the feedback we have had is that it's excellent to have another one.
"Everyone's delighted that Durham has a model shop again. We've definitely picked the right spot."
To mark its launch, the shop held a prize draw in which customers were asked the question: "When does the Queen use the Irish state coach?"
Two Durham women won the first and second prizes - a model of the Irish state coach worth £240, and a model of the Queen's escort that accompanies it worth £192.
