TWO people were taken to hospital following an accident on the A6072 at Redworth yesterday afternoon. The road was closed for about 90 minutes following the head-on collision between a car and a van at about 3.15pm.
The man and the woman, who police said were not seriously injured, were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

Daisy flourisheD: A campaign to encourage older people in Darlington to get involved in the community has been hailed a success. Darlington Borough Council, which ran the Daisy campaign, hosted 30 events throughout June in the town and 1,200 people took part. The campaign was backed by The Northern Echo.

YOUNG FUN: A youth club for five to 11-year-olds meets at Toft Hill and Etherley Community Centre every Tuesday, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Admission is 50p, new members and volunteers are welcome to join sport and craft activities.
Community meeting: Fishburn Community Project is holding a meeting tomorrow from 7pm, in Fishburn Youth Community Centre, when Neil Cunningham will discuss the financial report.
Playscheme starts: The annual playscheme at Carmel Technology College in Darlington starts on Monday. The scheme will run from 9am to 5pm for four weeks during the summer break and is open to four to 14-year-olds. The cost is £60 for all the weeks but if all sessions are booked in one go there is a 50 per cent discount for the final week. For details call (01325) 468729.
LICENSing MEETING: Wear Valley District Council's licensing committee will hold a meeting in the Civic Centre, Crook town centre, on Thursday, starting at 6pm.
ROAD WORKS: Temporary traffic lights will be in place at two sites on the A167 in North Road, Darlington, on Sunday, for road works. Lights will be in operation at both the junction with Burtree Lane, and the Longfield Road junction.
