A MOTHER hoping to take part in a marathon 230-mile cycle ride around Cuba has said she is more worried about funding the trip than about the cycle ride itself.
Janet Balsour, of Park View South, Chester-le-Street, hopes to take part in the charity cycle ride in March to raise money for Women For Women, which funds training for women scientists and clinicians in pioneering work in pregnancy and women's health.
The only man on the otherwise all-female challenge will be infertility expert Professor Robert Winston.
He has presented television programmes such as the Human Body and is also chairman of the appeal.
Another celebrity planning to take part in the cycle ride in March next year is GMTV news reader Penny Smith.
Now Janet, a fitness instructor and supervisor at Park View Community Centre in Chester-le-Street, must raise £2,500 to cover the costs of the trip and raise money for the appeal.
She said: "It will be roughly 50 miles a day, over some quite hilly terrain, but I'm more worried about raising the money."
