MORE than 1,000 women joined together on Sunday to run for charity.
Organisers were delighted by the number of runners who signed up for the 5km Race for Life event held at South Park in Darlington.
It is the first time that the female-only run, which helps to raise money for Cancer Research UK, has been staged in the town.
Many runners fixed memory cards dedicated to loved ones they had lost to cancer to their T-shirts, a poignant reminder of why they were there.
Race for Life organiser Roberta Brown said: "We have had more than 1,000 people sign up to take part. It is the first time that Race for Life has come to Darlington, so that it amazing."
Other runs have been held in Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
