VILLAGERS are reviving their summer carnival to promote community spirit.
West Auckland Village Partnership, which has already converted a former library into a meeting and activities centre, has set aside the August 26 bank holiday Monday for the event on the green.
The village carnival was last held 20 years ago.
Committee member Debbie Maben said: "The carnival was one of the high spots of the summer in West Auckland and we wanted to bring it back as soon as possible. The carnival used to last a full week in early July, so this year's event will be a taster for what we hope will be a fully revived Carnival Week in 2003. It is one of the best ways of bringing the whole village community together."
A full programme is planned and a carnival queen will be chosen at a disco later this month. Profits will support village centre activities.
Organisers are appealing for a set of quoits to use on the day. Contact Martin Roberts on (01388) 833214.
