Up against ten entries from host club Bishop Auckland, New Blackwell ATC pair Ronnie Wright and Imogen Towsend won the annual John Tuer Tennis Cup for mixed pairs by beating all but one of their opponents in the round robin contest.
The runners-up were Bishops pairing of Cliff Mulholland and Lorraine Caldwell. Wright and Townsend are previous winners of the competition.
"One of the most pleasing aspects was that three pairs who took part are juniors who have come through our coaching scheme," said club chairman Walter Jones. "Our adult section is also thriving with 20 players taking part in regular competition."
The club runs mens, womens and mixed teams in the Darlington Tennis League. Coach Keith Greenwell takes junior coaching on the club's modern, all-weather courts at the Bishop Auckland Town recreation ground on Wednesdays, under-10s from 4-5pm and 10-16 year olds from 5-6pm. New
players are always welcome.
