After ending last season with a flourish, Coundon and Leeholme under-18 juniors are looking to make a bigger impact in their second season.
"In the closing weeks we beat all the top teams, and we caused what was effectively a play-off for the league title by beating Chilton YC in a crucial midweek game," said Coundon manager Gary Heighington.
Coundon juniors train twice a week at the Leeholme recreation ground, Tuesdays and Thursdays (7.00). Potential new players can contact Heighington on 01388 602949.
After a tentative start, Coundon finished fifth out of seven teams in the league and in the league cup qualifying table.
Chilton have cause to regret that loss to Coundon. After looking all over title winners, they finally lost out by two points to Bishop Auckland who beat Chilton 3-2 in the final league fixture of the season.
Wilington Boys had a double success at the "soccer six" tournament at Barnard Castle with trophy wins in both the intermediate and junior competitions.
The club entered two under-13 teams in the intermediate section. Together the two sides playing a total of 17 games, losing only two and winning the rest. The Hornets got through to the knock-out stage before being eliminated, while the Willington Blues went all the way to lift the trophy by beating a team from Leeds in a penalty shoot-out in the final. The Willington junior team played ten games and won them all, including a 2-0 success in the final.
Crook Town has decided to disband its under-18 and under-19 junior soccer teams that have brought the club great success in recent years, including progress in the early rounds of the FA Youth Cup.
The Albany Northern League club decided they could afford to run only one junior team.
Club chairman Stephen Buddle said, "I would like to thank Billy Horn and his team who ran the juniors again last season at under-18 and under-19 level."
