George Mann Cup
Wolsingham Teachers were able to hand out lessons to two of the favourites in the competition when they played their delayed quarter final and then the semi-final. In the quarter final the Teachers faced the unbeaten Wolsingham Club and the former batted first and started confidently with a good opening stand of 33 before Gary Boothroyd was caught on 19. The Teachers batted the overs out and reached 117.
Wolsingham Club set out to run quick singles in their aim to beat the target but suffered early on when Stephen Peart was run out for only 5. This alerted the Club and they settled to quick but safe scoring and had Andrew Shuttleworth with 21, Nigel Percival 20, Derek Elliott 20 and Neil Peveller with 20. However the drive to victory fell five short of their target.
The first semi-final saw Wolsingham Mill Race bat first against Wolsingham Sixth Form and put on 26 for the first wicket before Richie Pringle went for 9. The Mill Race had 21 from both John Campbell and Rob Cramb and 19 from John Nelson to add to the 40 extras, which the Sixth Form conceded. The innings was completed in the 19th over with the score at 139.
The Sixth Form missed the absent Dan Evans and were disappointed to see his brother, Chris go for only 10 after batting confidently throughout the competition. Fellow opener, Phil Smart must have been the unluckiest player in the competition when he thumped a shot to square leg only to see Richie Hanlon, who was ducking out of the road, find the ball stuck to his person. The Sixth Form battled on but finished their innings on 82.
Weardale Steel batted first in their semi-final against Wolsingham Teachers and made 37 before Rob Dawson was run out with 17. When the overs ran out they were on 96.
The Teachers reply had only reached two runs when Gary Boothroyd went for a duck, his first dismissal in the competition. Gary Stephenson made 17 and Graeme Dalton 23 to put the Teachers on course but then came a serious collapse, which raised the spirits of Weardale Steel. The Teachers were left needing 31 from six overs with only two wickets left. But they took them to victory with nine balls remaining.
Langbaurgh League
Kirby Sigston suffered their first defeat in 13 outings when they lost by just one wicket to third from top East Harlsey. The leaders struggled for runs when they batted first and were restricted to 85 for nine by man of the match Willey. He claimed six wickets for 45 runs and Mold returned two for 12 with Thompson Kirby Sigston's top scorer with 22 runs.
Replying East Harlsey also found run making difficult but edged to a one wicket success.
Stafford Place romped to a ten wickets victory at Chopgate who were 109 for nine which included 22 apiece by Hartley, Livingstone and Brown. Replying the visitors reached their target of 110 without losing a wicket. Simpson carried his bat for 56 and Connor was unbeaten on 32.
Scruton were all out for 96 when they hosted Crathorne who went on to win by eight wickets. Greensit opened the Scruton innings and scored 32 but a total of 96 was established as Bruce returned six for 25 and Blench had two wickets for 27 runs. Responding Mooney (45) and Marshall with an unbeaten 42 took their side to within sight of victory before two wickets fell.
Broughton realised 146 for nine visiting Swainby - all out for 81.
It has certainly not been the best of seasons for Ingleby Greenhow who crashed to their 11th defeat in 13 outings when they lost by 243 runs to Kildale. Batting first Kildale reached the formidable total of 262 for five and the runs flowed by Corcoran (61), Dan Doughty (45) and Sonley who carried his bat for 69. Openers Peirson and Proud both contributed 21.
In complete contrast to the visitors' innings, Ingleby Greenhow were all out for 19 as Sonley completed a man of the match performance taking eight wickets for ten runs.
Hutton Rudby entertained Thimbleby and won by seven wickets. Thimbleby made first use of the wicket and after 40 openers realised 79 for the loss of nine wickets as Ian Reid took four wickets for nine runs in eight overs, Paul Coombes two for 22 from ten overs and Bill Young two for 16, also from a ten-over spell which included five maidens. In reply Hutton Rudby won in 14 overs.
The Readers Durham County League U15s
Crook Town had the better of Willington when the sides met in a derby. At the end of a good game 23 runs separated the sides after Crook Town had posted 108 for four which included 39 by Ollie Burke and 29 from Peter Robinson. In reply Willington totalled 85-4.
Washington hosted Esh Winning and won by a couple of wickets after restricting the visitors to 75 for seven.
Ushaw Moor were at home to Langley Park and won by a single run. Paul Young's 20 not out was the best performance in the Ushaw Moor innings which produced a total of 68 for seven with Moralee four for ten and Wilkinson two for 13 in the visiting attack.
There was another close finish in the fixture between Etherley and Sedgefield which Etherley won by only four runs. When they were required to score 75 Sedgefield managed 70 for six off which Boardman contributed 24.
Mainsforth's 20 overs produced a score of 93 for five which was overtaken by Shildon who had three wickets left. Nicholas Pattison scored almost half the Mainsforth total contributing 45, while for Shildon, Tweddle and Rowley both took a couple of wickets.
Fosters Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League U15
The Stoneman cousins were again prominent in Burnopfield's nine wickets defeat against Annfield Plain. Lee claimed three wickets for four runs and Mark took three for five which together with a two for eight return by Adam Tinnion reduced Annfield Plain to 36 all out. Mark Stoneman then carried his bat for 16 in the Burnopfield reply of 41 for one.
Alan Smith top scored with 37 not out in the Lintz total of 80 for five before Crookhall went on to win by eight wickets when Steve Stewart finished undefeated on 53.
Swalwell overtook the Chopwell total of 56 with six wickets left when George Neaven contributed 35. Greenside had 62 runs in hand of Kibblesworth after realising 111 for five which included 34 not out by Robert Bell and 29 by John Marshall. Andrew Miller was devastating with the ball for Blaydon and when he claimed five wickets for two runs Consett were all out for 19, a total which Blaydon overtook easily.
Lanchester defeated Ryton by two wickets. Philip Bates top scored with 41 not out in the Ryton total of 97 for seven with Greg Halliday taking four for 19 and Cockburn two for 13.
No play was possible in the game between Sacriston and Whickham because of rain.
Federation Special Durham Senior League U18s
Paul Riddle, who has recently appeared in the first team, was in fine form as was Alan Loscombe when Hetton Lyons met neighbours Eppleton and won by eight runs. Riddle carried his bat for 60 and Loscombe finished undefeated on 49 as the Lyons realised 130 without loss before restricting Eppleton to 105 for six.
Felling could only manage 42 in their derby at Gateshead Fell who won conceding one wicket. Aman Dhindsa claimed three wickets for seven runs and Mujeeba Majid had the excellent figures of four wicket for six runs before Philip Bell carried his bat for 33 in an emphatic victory.
Ian Johnson hit seven boundaries in an undefeated 52 leading Horden to a match winning 146 for five at home to Durham City.
The game at Bunker Hill was abandoned because of rain with Philadelphia 55 for five against Burnmoor while Sunderland had 37 runs to spare defeating South Hetton after realising 131 for five and holding their opponents to 94.
South Shields posted 100 for nine but still lost by seven wickets to Whitburn at Wood Terrace.
The biggest team score and highest individual score were recorded in a game between Chester-le-Street and Marsden. Daniel Shurben struck a superb unbeaten 150 and his partner throughout the innings, John Coxon, managed 28 not out as the pair put on 219 in an unbroken opening partnership.
Premier Sports Durham Coast League Juniors
Boldon CA managed only 56 all out but still defeated Ryhope by 29 runs at the end of a low scoring game. A hat-trick by Graham, who ended with five for 22 was the feature of the Ryhope attack and for Boldon CA Gary Frater top scored with 20. Replying Ryhope were dismissed for 27 as Tony Lincoln also claimed five wickets.
Brian Conlon with an undefeated 55 and Liam Watson (44) propelled Hylton to a match winning 122 at home to Peterlee - sent back for 72.
At Dawdon the home side overtook the Houghton total of 103 for seven without losing a wicket.
Anthony Trotter (32), Alex Strange (24), James Hudson (26) and Chris Little (20) were all among the runs enabling Bill Quay to total 135 in their home fixture with Seaham Park. The visitors were all out for 66 including 29 by David Morton and for Bill Quay David Earl captured three wickets for three runs and Kevin South two for six.
Castle Eden looked as if they had made a winning score when they posted 151 for three, but Murton won by five wickets. Aidan Vout finished unbeaten on 50 and Graeme Hodgson also carried his bat for 37.
Fosters Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League U18s
Aunbeaten innings of 52 by Greg Halliday led Lanchester to a ten wickets victory at Shotley Bridge who batting first posted 100 for three which included 42 not out by Craig Lloyd.
At Whickham the home side had 21 runs in hand of Lintz who replied with 83 for six including 27 from Foster. Adam Ainley was in splendid form with the ball for Whickham, taking five of the six wickets to fall for only 19 runs. When they batted first Whickham ended with 104 for eight and Chris Morton top scored with 31 while for Lintz, Foster captured three for 23.
David Bailey (71) and Gary Stewart (51) led Blaydon to a match winning 153 for four in their home game with Crookhall.
Greenside celebrated a three wickets win at home to Sacriston after holding the visitors to 94 for five. Andrew Dixon (44) and Craig Burke (24) led the way for Sacriston.
Chopwell crashed to 18 all and lost by ten wickets at Annfield Plain for whom Christopher Robinson took three for three, Naveed Ahmed three for five and Saquiab Khan two for five.
Premier Sports Durham Coast League U15s
Kit Allan led Hylton to an exciting eight wickets victory at Dawdon when he carried his bat for 75 out of a total of 134 for two. When they batted first Dawdon reached 133 losing three wickets as Stephen Gale also scored 75 and Karl Scott contributed 46.
In contrast, runs were scarce when Seaham Park visited Peterlee and won by ten wickets after bowling out the home team for just 24. Craig Robinson with three wickets for two runs was the most successful Seaham bowler.
Paul Howe finished with a superb 86 not out and Scott Davison added 20 to the Silksworth total of 125 for five. Craig Lyall took two for 24 for Bill Quay who won by seven wickets when Adam Richardson carried his bat for 59 and Lyall ended undefeated on 43.
At Houghton the home side recorded a magnificent 164 runs win against Easington who they bowled out for just 19.
After posting 125 for four which included 76 by Danny Evans, Castle Eden went down by six wickets to Ryhope for whom Pearson scored 48 and Miller 25 not out. Kristian Summerside had two for 12 in the Ryhope attack.
Tom Lincoln (26), Karl Bellerby (25) and Shaun Erskine (21) were all among the runs enabling Boldon CA to total 125 for seven at Murton for whom Callum Milne returned two for 23 and Gary Lobban two for 11. Murton finished well short of their target when they managed 94 for six of which Milne scored 26.
Federation Special Durham Senior League U15
Craig Hughes and Lee Atkinson propelled Eppleton to a match winning 150 for three against neighbours Hetton Lyons. Hughes struck a couple of sixes and five boundaries as he finished unbeaten on 67 and Atkinson also had two sixes and five fours making 47. When the 20 overs expired Eppleton were 150 for three and two of the wickets were taken by Ben Liddle for nine runs in two overs.
Sunderland were skittled out for just 24 on their visit to South Hetton for whom Kyle Bradbury, Paul Davidson, John Maddison and Paul Hopkins all claimed a couple of wickets. South Hetton won with seven wickets remaining.
Despite 31 by Tony Price who struck five fours, Philadelphia totalled only 82 for four in their home game with Burnmoor who won by eight wickets and South Shields recorded an eight wickets win against Whitburn.
Sun Bank U15 National championship
Burnopfield romped into the next stage with an emphatic victory over Hylton. Batting first Hylton made 155 for three when Mark Stoneman rattled up 14 boundaries in 90 and Marcus Peart added 28 with one six and three fours.
Responding Hylton were reduced to only 89 which included 24 by James who struck three boundaries. Lee Stoneman returned four wickets for 17 runs in four overs and Peart had five for 36 from the 3.5 overs he bowled.
