YOUNGSTERS modelled creative costumes produced by members of their community yesterday.
Residents of Cassop and Quarrington Hill, ranging from young children to pensioners, came together to produce the outfits on the theme of nature for a carnival parade, to take place on Wednesday. They designed and made the outfits with the help of artist Malcolm Smith during twice-weekly workshops lasting five weeks.
The 20 costumes, produced with funding from the Mosaic Fund, provided a splash of colour in Cassop Primary School's annual family picnic.
Headteacher Jim McManners said: "It went really well.
"The project did what it set out to do and produced lovely products, but better than that, it brought people together.
"People are keen to do something else and we are thinking of developing something we can continue after school or doing something similar next year."
