SPORTING enthusiasts have raised nearly £8,000 for good causes in Ryedale at a dinner in Terrington Hall School.
Half of the money will go to the school's playing field development fund and the other half to the Rupert Hannah Medical Equipment Fund.
Mr Hannah, who lived in Malton, died last year, just weeks after doctors found a tumour on his brain.
He was a member of Malton and Norton Rugby Club, and played cricket for Westow and Whitwell.
Jo Green, from the school, said: "Everything seemed to be connected one way or the other. One of our teachers is the captain of the rugby club and then Mr Hannah and our head had played cricket together. When Rupert died we thought we would put half the money to the memorial fund.
