COMMUNITY-MINDED friends Robert Elsworth and Caitlin Craggs have helped secure a £22,000 grant to improve play areas.
The youngsters took action after deciding children needed a safe place to play in the villages of Nosterfield and Thornborough, near Masham.
They conducted a survey to see if local families would back their campaign before writing to Tanfield parish council.
Their efforts were rewarded when Northallerton-based Yorventure made a grant to the council to provide new play areas for both villages.
Robert, ten, and Caitlin, 11, both live in Nosterfield.
Robert said: "Our old swings were put on the green in Coronation year, but they had to be removed four years ago because they were old and unsafe.
"We wanted some new swings and play equipment because children need somewhere to play.
"We're glad that local people and the parish council supported us - the summer holidays will be much more fun now."
