Ninteen senior runners entered the Burn Valley Half Marathon, another of the Club Championship events.
Richard Hall was the first T & S runner home, in 9th place, in 1.21.02. Rob Burn 10th in 1.21.24, Walter Busuttil 18th in 1.24.08, Stuart Mechie 25th in 1.25.29, Nick Cotton 29th in 1.27.16, Cameron Choules 35th in 1.28.39, Ernie Huck 51st in 1.32.42, Richard Soper 76th in 1.37.20, Angela Hayward 85th in 1.38.43, Hywel Smith 92nd in 1.39.28 closely followed by Geoff Bullock 93rd in 1.39.29, Alan Wikeley 117th in 1.42.34, Jill Soper 138th in 1.44.59, Maureen Gibbs 162nd in 1.48.27, Pat Kirby 193rd in 1.52.11, Peter Scanlon 236th in 1.58.34, Karen Hudson 271st in 2.07.30, Judith Seaton 282nd in 2.14.04 and Jo Fambely 286th in 2.17.50.
Rob Burn was 1st in the V45 Male category and Maureen Gibbs 1st in the V55 Female category.
15 year old Neil Mechie was 3rd in the Fun Run in 18.04.
In the Otley 10 Mile Race, which was also a Yorkshire Championship event, Walter Busuttil was 1st in the V40 event and was thus Yorkshire Champion. Rob Burn came 2nd in the V45 event and was 2nd in the Yorkshire Championships. Maureen Gibbs won the V55 category and was Women's V55 Yorkshire Champion, and Kaye Mechie was 3rd in the V45 Women's event. The Club results for this event were reported last week.
An unusually small contingent competed in the 5th Harrogate League event at the Swaledale Club. The event was again won by Ian Fisher of Otley in 26.08. John Yates was in 26th place in 31.11, Ernie Huck 58th in 34.14, Nigel Morgan 94th in 38.22, Maureen Gibbs 100th in 39.05, and Pat Kirby 112th in 40.13. There were 136 finishers.
The Club is in 7th place in both the Main event and the Vets, in 4th place in the Ladies and the Lady Vets, and the Elite men are in 6th place.
Stuart Mechie was the winner of the recent Galtres 6 mile Race and the Thirsk and Sowerby team won the Men's Team event.
Quakers RC
The final meeting of the North Yorkshire and South Durham track and field league took place on July 2. The meeting held at Claireville stadium in Middlesbrough saw a reduced representation from the clubs junior athletes due to the majority having already competed at the Darlington secondary school athletics championships which had been held earlier in the day at Eastbourne sports complex.
Results: Under 13 Girls: Rachel Carter: 100m - 7th 17.6s, Shot Putt - 2nd 6.20m (PB). Under 15 Girls: Alexandra Snook: 100m - 6th 14.7s (PB). Natasha Smith: 100m - 5th 15.3s. Under 15 Boys: Simon Carter: 100m - 7th 16.8s (PB), 1500m - 2nd 5:24.7, Long Jump - 3rd 3.75m. Under 17 Boys: Lewis Moses: 1500m - 2nd 4:31.4. Alan Carter: 1500m - 5th 5:06.8, Long Jump - 6th 3.98m (PB). Under 20 Men: Darren Flatman: Shot Putt - 2nd 7.16m, Long Jump - 3rd 4.57m (PB), 1500m - 8th 4:48.6. Danny Small: Long Jump - 1st 5.63m, Shot Putt - 3rd 7.03m. Allan Tindall: Long Jump - 2nd 5.30m.
On Sunday, 30 June, Alasdair Tatham and Ian Scott travelled to Rainton to compete in their annual 10k. Alasdair finished 3rd out of 206 competitors in a time of 33:40, followed closely by Ian Scott, 11th, in 35:49, collecting the 1st over 45 vet prize. Ian Scott competed in the Skipton 10K on Sunday, 7 July, finishing 11th out of 318 runners in a time of 34:59.
On Tuesday, 9 July, 3 Quakers all gained PB's at Marske's 5K road race. First home for the club was Graham Park in 18:14, finishing 24th out of 98 runners, followed by Dawn Richardson, 34th, 18:48 and Terry Deary, 82nd, 22:34.
Colin Morris and Steve Smedley formed a team to compete in this years Saunders Mountain Marathon. Despite torrential rain on the Saturday, the two completed the 31km course to finish 64th in the Carrock Fell Class in a total time of 8:33:54.
The next Deadly Durham Fell Series Race will be held on Sunday, 21 July.
Monks Moor Fell Race will consist of 13.5 miles over 3413 feet. Register on the day, 1 mile north of Middleton in Teesdale. Local knowledge/navigational skills required. Start time 11.00am, includes 2 mile junior fell race commencing 11:15am.
On Friday, 2 August, the Quakers will be assisting with the Middleton in
Teesdale Gala Fell Race, commencing at 7.15pm from the Market Place opposite the Teesdale Hotel in Middleton in Teesdale. The 2.5 mile fell race consists of 551 feet of climbing. Minimum age is 14 years.
The Masham Half Marathon on the July 6, saw five Aycliffe runners tackle one of the hardest Half Marathons in the region. Peter Milburn once again showed his pedigree for the hard courses with a time of 1.23 finishing in 18th position.
Michael O' Sullivan in 79th place in 1.37, John Burnside ran an excellent race to finish in 83rd position in 1.38, Sue Milburn in 105th place in 1.40, Dave McKenzie was 230th in 1.56 . In the three mile Fun Run James Askew finished 8th position in 18.39 making him 2nd.
On Wednesday July 3 Matthew Bell showed his potential once again at the Croft Pitstop 10k finishing a very credible 5th in 37minutes.
Pat Edwards finished the Kilburn seven-mile road race in 62 minutes. Prolific racer Peter Milburn was once again on form at Swainby for the Whorlton Chase seven-mile fell race -he finished 11th. Sue Milburn's dominance continued in the third race of the Tees - Forest series of 5k trail races this time at Pinchinthorpe Guisborough, Sue has now been first lady back in all three of the races to date. Richard Harvey 21.06, Kevin Greenall 21.10, Margaret Greenall had a time of 26.30.
