THE Richmondshire district plays host to an open-air concert this evening.
Rock in the Quarry, near Barton, on the North Yorkshire, County Durham border, at the beginning of the month was the area's first attempt at a mini-Glastonbury and its success has prompted organisers to promise another for next summer.
However, tonight Richmond itself hosts the second T in the Field concert, held for the first time in the town in 2000, but based on a similar event held every year in Scotland.
Leeds-based Four-Day Hombre are the headline act, but another five up-and-coming bands will perform from 6pm until midnight. Money raised will go to Cancer Research UK.
"We decided to organise T in the Field because, a couple of years ago, a school friend had just been diagnosed with lymphoma,'' said spokesman and local musician Tom Lawson.
"Thankfully, she's now doing well and is hoping to be at this year's event.
"Last year's concert was cancelled due to the foot-and-mouth outbreak, but we are still fundraising and all the profits from the event this year will be split between Cancer Research UK and Raleigh International.''
A bar and food will be available with tickets, priced at £5, available from Richmond's Tourist Information Centre or at the gate on the night.
Entrance to the concert is from The Green at the foot of Cravengate.
