A LORRY overturned at the junction of a motorway yesterday. The truck is believed to have been carrying woodchip and was on the A1M slip road at junction 63 near Chester-le-Street when it rolled onto its side at 6am. The driver was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham with slight injuries.
NEW SHUTTERS: Marks and Spencer is seeking planning permission from Durham City Council to install security roller shutters on the emergency exit on the western side of its store in Silver Street, Durham.
DIP IN: Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve, near Peterlee, is holding a pond dipping event which will introduce visitors to the wildlife beneath the surface of ponds, on Sunday, July 28 between 2pm and 4pm. The event is free but places must be booked on 0191-518 2403.
NEW UNITS: Durham Van Hire is seeking planning permission from Durham City Council to build two new industrial units at its premises in Grove Terrace at Langley Moor.
DONOR SESSIONS: A blood donor session will be held on Monday in the Castleview Centre, Cartwright Road, Hylton Castle, Sunderland, between 2pm and 6.15pm. On Tuesday, a donor session will be held between 2.30pm and 7pm in the Leisure Centre, Alexandra Road, Gateshead.
MINING DISPLAY: Mining artefacts will be on display today and tomorrow at The Wayfarer pub in Front Street, Haswell, to raise money for the Durham Mining Museum. There will be evening performances by the Wayfarer Folk Club. For details call 0191-517 1274.
WAGON WALK: Hylton Marrs will lead a five-mile walk, called History of the Wagonways, at 2pm today, from Dipton Community Centre, near Stanley. The walk, organised by Durham County Council, costs £2 for adults, £1 for concessions.

GOLF COACHING: The Hobson Golf Course at Burnopfield is running week-long golf coaching courses for youngsters aged seven to 16 throughout the summer holidays from Monday. CITY STROLL: Historian David Butler will lead a two-mile walk introducing people to the history of Durham on Wednesday. It starts at 6.30pm at the gates to the city's castle on Palace Green. It costs £2 for adults and £1 for concessions.
MEETING OF: North Durham Community Health Council has cancelled the meeting it was going to hold on Friday. It is being re-arranged for Friday, August 23 at 10am in the boardroom at Appleton House, Lanchester Road, Durham.
