YOUNGSTERS are learning how to become entrepreneurs with the help of call centre staff.
The new Young Enterprise programme, designed to encourage enterprise among primary school pupils, has been piloted at Bexhill Primary School, Sunderland, with the help of volunteers from London Electricity (LE), at Doxford Park.
They have been working with four to 11-year-olds at the school to help them understand the world of work and learn skills, such as how to communicate in different ways.
As part of the project, one group made their own television set.
Now, following the pilot's success, the scheme will be extended to the rest of Sunderland's primary schools in the new term.
Maggie McMeekin, of LE, said: "It's been fantastic to be involved with the youngsters at Bexhill. They are so enthusiastic and interested in what happens at work and why we need to work."
Young Enterprise is a national charity which runs programmes for more than 75,000 young people every year with the support of more than 2,000 businesses.
Julie Richards, Young Enterprise development manager for Sunderland, said the programme had revealed that it is never too early to start to learn about enterprise and understand how jobs and education fit into the greater scheme of the business world.
