YOUNG footballers enjoyed a weekend of soccer fun. Forty seven-a-side teams took part in a series of tournaments as the second Sage Soccer Festival kicked off in Durham City.
Boys aged eight, nine and ten, plus girls and women's teams, competed in the event, which was staged by Washington-based GB Sports Tours and sponsored by Newcastle computer firm Sage.
Rob Tait, of GB Sports Tours, said: "It has been fantastic. We have had good crowds, decent weather and the kids have really enjoyed themselves.''
The festival, which is being held at East Durham and Houghall Community College, on the outskirts of city, runs until Friday, and from today features older players, including under-19 academy teams from professional clubs, such as Newcastle United, Celtic, Hartlepool, Darlington, Scunthorpe and Cambridge.
