VICTIM Support branches in the North-East will open their doors this week in a bid to double the number of volunteers.
The charity's County Dur-ham division supported more than 17,000 people last year and it is hoped this week's recruitment drive will help to increase the aid it gives victims and witnesses of crime.
Trudi Ranson, area manager, said: "We want to show people the vast amount of diverse help we provide. It's not just tea and sympathy."
The organisation offers free and confidential one-to-one support, help with compensation and appeals, home safety advice, and support in court.
Training is provided to equip volunteers with the skills needed to support people affected by crimes.
Anybody who would like to offer support can contact the area office on 0191-383 1389.
