WHEN police arrested the wrong woman for a nightclub attack, her friend walked up and told officers: "I did it", a court was told yesterday.
Even the victim had named the wrong attacker until mother-of-two Kelly Preston, 21, made her confession said David Scutt, prosecuting.
Another witness confirmed that she had swung a glass into the girl's face, at the Bo Jangles nightclub in Darlington, leaving her scarred.
Preston told police: "I'm a bitch when I'm drunk," Teesside Crown Court heard. She said that she got involved when a girl bumped into her friend on the dance floor.
Preston claimed that her ex-boyfriend used to hit her. When the girl's injuries were described to her she said that she felt bad because she knew what it was like to be hit.
Preston, of Reed Street, Darlington, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding on April 26. The Crown accepted her plea of not guilty to wounding with intent.
Judge Leslie Spittle told her: "You involved yourself with a degree of violence which was totally out of scale.
"I am prepared to accept that in that club you misread the situation and you struck out when you had a glass in your hand."
Preston was given a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, with a two-year supervision order.
