A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build a conference and exhibition centre on the outskirts of Pickering is to be decided by Ryedale District Council.
They are to make the final decision because members of the authority's northern area planning committee overturned a recommendation by officers to grant Pickering businessman Simon Boak permission for the ambitious project.
The venture is planned for a site off the A169 Pickering to Malton road, which is used for car boot sales and other outdoor events.
Mr Boak argued that the development would be a boost to Pickering's economy, attracting people to the town from all parts of the country when events are held at the centre.
A final decision on the outline application will be made by the council's policy and resources committee.
